Meet the Publishers

Will Howarth served as editor-in-chief of The Writings of Henry D. Thoreau, chaired The Center for American Places and, in over 40 years at Princeton, taught courses ranging from pre-colonial America to postmodern film. He has written for many national periodicals, from The New York Times to National Geographic.

Anne Matthews is a Pulitzer finalist in nonfiction and a contributing editor for American Scholar and Preservation. She has taught for many years at Princeton, Columbia, and New York University, specializing in journalism, popular fiction, and media history.

Together they write fiction and film under the pen name of Dana Hand. Their novel Deep Creek was named by the Washington Post a Best Novel of 2010 and by Newsweek / The Daily Beast as a best American Western since 1960.
